June 6, 2026 - Garrison, NY, to High Falls, NY

Start: Garrison, NY
End: High Falls, NY
Miles: 55.3
Feet climbing per mile: 53
Record of the day's ride: https://ridewithgps.com/trips/388687080

I rode to Grand Central Terminal and caught the 7:57 Metro North train that arrived in Garrison shortly after 9:00. At about mile 6.5 I stopped to admire Breakneck Ridge.

At mile 25.7 I enjoyed a scoop of Stewart's black raspberry ice cream. Yes, ice cream for breakfast!

Too bad there's no Stewart's in Manhattan, where the price of a single pint is now more than $7.

Exactly what is the meaning of the sign below? Is it a suggestion for bikers to ride this road? Is it a warning to drivers to be on the lookout for cyclists? Perhaps it's a waste of tax dollars.

At mile 28 I recognized a covered bridge I had seen on my ride September 23, 2023 - Cold Spring, NY, to Lake Taghkanic State Park, NY.

Poughkeepsie has a puke machine! Mike Macewich I have called it that since we rode one in Springfield, Illinois, when we were there for a bike rally in the 70s.

Poughkeepsie also has a fountain honoring soldiers who have died in service to our country.

The Walkway Over the Hudson is an amazing bridge.

I did not expect the entrance to its elevator to be closed.

I had assumed the elevator, which I had taken before, would be open. The address on the sign was correct but somehow Google maps showed it in the middle of the Hudson. Nevertheless, with guidance from one of the locals, I found the entrance to the Walkway.

At mile 40.1 I stopped to enjoy a Monster.

I arrived in High Falls at the home of my friends Tom and Carol at 4:00. For dinner Tom made us hamburgers and asparagus. I noted that he used butter to fry the hamburgers. I tried that at home a few days later and found it helped to create a crusty surface.

    1. I considered adding a point-of-interest for the puke machine to the RideWithGPS highlights layer but decided against it.

  2. re bike sign :This sign is a designated bicycle route marker, using the US M1-8 Bicycle Route Signage design standard. The green oval specifically indicates it is part of a state or local cycling network. Such signs are placed along roads to alert motorists to the presence of cyclists and guide riders along designated paths. NOT a waste of taxpayer dollars in Marghretta's opinion.
