4000-mile Big Loop

During the summer of 2019 I plan to take a 4000-mile solo bike trip along the routes shown in the map below. I'll be traveling clockwise, starting and ending in New York. Each different color on the map indicates a day of riding, except for the long straight pink line; I still need to plan my route from Marietta, GA, to Carbondale, IL.

Routes

Click here to go to a page that has the detailed routes for my trip. Then click on any route to view it on the map, or click the Show-all-on-map button at the bottom of the page to see all the routes at once.

I expect there will be about 60 days of riding and 15 or more rest days. I'll be camping about 40 nights when I'm not staying with friends or family or in a motel. I'll be traveling with only about 18 pounds of gear loaded on my bike. So this will be a bike trip on which I do a lot of camping rather than a camping trip on which I do a lot of biking. I plan to write a post about the gear I'll take.

Blog and Ride Reports

I intend to use my phone to post something on my blog each day of my trip, and then when I stay in a home, where I have access to a computer, I will collect the posts from the previous few days into a ride report on www.ridewithgps.com. To see the ride reports I've already created, click here.

  1. Would you be able to put me up for a night or two in late June or early July?
