Planning Denver to Washington, D.C. 2026
I have decided that this year I will ride from Denver, Colorado, to Washington, D.C., in order to ride all the segments of Cross Country 2024 I was not able to ride. I have not yet chosen a starting date. I expect this trip of about 2500 miles to take about 60 days, 45 of which will be riding days. All of the routes can be found here.
Here's the outline of my plan:
- Fly from New York to Denver
- Spend a few days in Denver acclimating to its elevation of 5,000 feet
- Take a bus from Denver to Frisco
- Spend a few days in Frisco acclimating to its elevation of 9,000 feet
- Ride from Frisco to Washington, D.C., following the routes from Cross Country 2024
- Take an AMTRAK train to New York

The map below shows where I did not ride in Cross Country 2024, except for the 150 miles in Oregon from Mitchell to Baker City. I will be riding again from Frisco to Hoosier Pass and from Carbondale, Illinois, to Waynesville, North Carolina.

I look forward to riding the segments of Cross Country 2024 I did not ride, to revisiting segments of Cross Country 2024 I did ride, and to revisiting the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive which I rode in Big Loop 2019.

What a wonderful trip this will be! So much planning you need to do for your trips, which is probably part of the interest. Best wishes, Lisa Bruce
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lisa. I do enjoy the planning, which is extensive, at least the way I do it.
DeleteTerrific ... great idea! You really do need to finish off those last extra miles. I trust you'll be posting daily emails sharing your experiences ... both the great ones and perhaps the occasional "meh". Sending best wishes for safe cycling, fair winds and happy trails. Al Galletly (Ridgefield, CT)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Al. I'll be posting on Facebook and writing a blog post every day of the trip.
DeleteAl, I've ridden through Ridgefield twice.
