Day 99: October 12, 2024 - Somerset, NJ, to New York, NY

Start: Somerset, NJ
End: New York, NY
Miles: 40.3
Feet climbing per mile: 33
Record of the day's ride: https://ridewithgps.com/trips/229783997

After thoroughly enjoying another swim in the hotel pool and taking advantage of the free breakfast, I began my final ride of this trip.

I was looking forward to seeing the Kastner Mansion in Newark, New Jersey, which I had passed on several rides, but all I found was an empty lot. A postal carried walking by told me there had been a fire in the building last October. Read about it here.

Here's the picture I took two weeks before the fire.

The hazard into which I crashed on March 25th, 2019, remains ready to injure someone. Read about my crash here.

On the Lincoln Highway Passaic River Bridge I came across the mangled cars that had crashed earlier in the day.

Here was my first good view of Manhattan.

I wonder for what purpose the cable crossing is (or was) used.

That new pavement and guardrail is quite an improvement!

I don't remember ever seeing this fountain in Lincoln Park. How could I have missed it?

The view of Manhattan from Paulus Hook is magnificent.

Time for a selfie.

After crossing the Hudson on the ferry it was just a few miles before I was home.
